Η Ύπατη Αρμοστεία εκφράζει βαθιά θλίψη για τον θάνατο 15χρονου Αφγανού από έκρηξη βόμβας

 

ΑΘΗΝΑ – Η Ύπατη Αρμοστεία εκφράζει τη βαθιά της λύπη για το θάνατο ενός 15χρονου αγοριού από το Αφγανιστάν, όταν εξερράγη βόμβα έξω από την Ελληνική Εταιρία Διοικήσεως Επιχειρήσεων στα Πατήσια, αργά το βράδυ της Κυριακής. Η έκρηξη τραυμάτισε τη 10χρονη αδερφή του αγοριού και τη μητέρα τους. Η Αστυνομία ερευνά το σημείο της έκρηξης για στοιχεία, διερευνώντας όλες τις πιθανότητες που συνδέονται με το περιστατικό.



Το αγόρι σκοτώθηκε ακαριαία ενώ η γυναίκα, ελαφρώς τραυματισμένη και σε κατάσταση σοκ, καθώς και το κορίτσι που έφερε πιο σοβαρά τραύματα, μεταφέρθηκαν στο νοσοκομείο. Η οικογένεια, Αφγανικής καταγωγής, φαίνεται ότι έψαχνε τους κάδους απορριμμάτων για φαγητό και άλλα αντικείμενα.

 Στα Πατήσια, καθώς και σε άλλες περιοχές στο κέντρο της Αθήνας, υπάρχουν μετανάστες, μεταξύ των οποίων και άνθρωποι που μπορεί να έχουν τραπεί σε φυγή από πολέμους ή διώξεις,  οι οποίοι ζουν σε συνθήκες έσχατης φτώχειας, αναγκασμένοι να κοιμούνται σε πάρκα ή εγκαταλειμένα σπίτια και να ψάχνουν για τροφή ανάμεσα στα σκουπίδια. «Προτού γίνει τυχαία το αθώο θύμα μιας έκρηξης βόμβας, το δεκαπεντάχρονο αγόρι και η οικογένειά του υπήρξαν πρωτίστως θύματα των σοβαρών ελλείψεων στο ελληνικό σύστημα ασύλου καθώς και της έλλειψης πρόνοιας και βοήθειας κατά την υποδοχή των ατόμων που αναγκάζονται να εγκαταλείψουν την πατρίδα τους και να αναζητήσουν ασφαλές καταφύγιο κάπου αλλού», δήλωσε η Καλλιόπη Στεφανάκη, Υπεύθυνη Τομέα Προστασίας στην Ύπατη Αρμοστεία του ΟΗΕ για τους Πρόσφυγες στην Ελλάδα.

 Την ίδια στιγμή, η Ύπατη Αρμοστεία εκφράζει την ανησυχία της σε σχέση με τους ισχυρισμούς του πατέρα της οικογένειας, ότι ο ίδιος είχε πολλές φορές προσπαθήσει, εκ μέρους και της οικογένειάς του, να καταθέσει αίτηση για άσυλο στη Διεύθυνση Αλλοδαπών στην Πέτρου Ράλλη, χωρίς όμως να τα καταφέρει.

 Η Ύπατη Αρμοστεία εκφράζει τα συλλυπητήριά της στην οικογένεια και επαναλαμβάνει την έκκλησή της προς τις Ελληνικές Αρχές να διασφαλίσουν για όλους τους αιτούντες άσυλο πρόσβαση στη διαδικασία ασύλου, σύμφωνα με το διεθνές προσφυγικό δίκαιο και τα Ευρωπαϊκά πρότυπα. Παράλληλα, καλεί την Πολιτεία να δημιουργήσει ένα ενισχυμένο και αποτελεσματικό σύστημα υποδοχής για άτομα που μπορεί να χρήζουν διεθνούς προστασίας και, ιδιαίτερα, για τους ανηλίκους.

UNHCR deplores death of Afghan boy from bomb blast in Athens

ATHENS – UNHCR expresses dismay over the death of a 15-year-old boy from Afghanistan, when a bomb exploded outside the Hellenic Management Association building in the Athens district of Patissia late Sunday night. The blast injured the boy’s 10-year-old sister, as well as their mother. Police are combing the explosion site for evidence, looking into all possibilities connected with the incident.

The boy was killed on the spot while the woman, who was in a state of shock and slightly injured, and the girl, whose injuries were more serious, have been taken to hospital. The family, all Afghan nationals, are believed to have been searching the garbage bins for food and other items.

In the area of Patissia, as well as in several neighborhoods of central Athens, migrants, including persons that may have fled war and persecution, live in conditions of acute destitution, being forced to sleep in parks or abandoned houses and to look for food in the garbage. “Before becoming the innocent casual victim of a bomb explosion, the 15-year-old boy and his family were first of all victims of serious shortcomings in the Greek asylum system and of the lack of welfare and reception assistance towards persons that are forced to leave their country and find safe refuge somewhere else”, said Kalliopi Stefanaki, Protection Officer at UNHCR Greece.

At the same time, UNHCR expresses concern as to allegations received from the father of the family that he, on behalf of his family, had several times tried to apply for asylum at the Aliens Directorate in Athens (Petrou Ralli) but was unable to do so.

UNHCR expresses regret and condolences to the family and reiterates its call to the Greek authorities to guarantee access to the asylum procedure for all asylum seekers, in conformity with the international refugee law and EU standards. It also urges the Greek State to establish a more enhanced and efficient reception system for persons that may be in need of international protection and, in particular, for minors.
